Ange Postecoglou has made his return to football following his departure from Nottingham Forest.
Postecoglou was dismissed by Nottingham Forest in October after just eight games at the helm.
The former Tottenham Hotspur manager has now made a quiet return to football following his exit from Forest, where his spell lasted only eight matches after taking over from Nuno Espirito Santo in September.
Despite Forest ranking highly in several Premier League attacking and possession-based metrics, results failed to follow, with the Australian unable to register a single win during his brief tenure.
Postecoglou had previously enjoyed major success with Spurs, guiding them to Europa League glory in May with a 1-0 victory over Manchester United in the final in Bilbao. However, he was relieved of his duties a month later after Tottenham finished 17th in the Premier League.
He has now re-entered the professional game as part of UEFA’s Technical Observer Panel. The group, made up of former elite players and managers, provides in-depth analysis of Champions League matches, focusing on modern coaching methods, tactics and playing styles.
High-profile names such as Gareth Southgate, Rafael Benitez, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Roberto Martinez and Roy Hodgson were named on the panel for the 2025/26 season back in September, with Postecoglou also included. His Forest appointment came shortly after, meaning his panel duties were initially put on hold.
On Tuesday evening, the 60-year-old was on assignment at the San Siro, observing Inter Milan’s 3-1 Champions League defeat to Arsenal. His technical breakdown of Gabriel Jesus’ first-half double was later published on UEFA’s official website.
In his analysis, Postecoglou highlighted Jesus’ sharp instincts in the penalty area, noting how his awareness gave Arsenal an added threat. He explained that both goals showcased a natural goalscorer’s anticipation — the first coming from a mis-hit effort he reacted to quickest, and the second from a rebound off the crossbar.
Meanwhile, on the same night, Postecoglou’s former club Tottenham continued their impressive European home form with a 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund, extending their unbeaten run to 24 matches. Thomas Frank’s side are now level with Manchester United and Arsenal in that statistic, with only Bayern Munich and Barcelona ahead.
