Milos Kerkez delivers classy response to apologetic Liverpool fan after Marseille victory
Milos Kerkez delivered an eye-catching performance as Liverpool cruised to a convincing Champions League win over Marseille on Wednesday night.
The Hungarian full-back was named in the starting XI at the Stade Vélodrome and completed the full match as Arne Slot’s side sealed an emphatic 3–0 victory.
Liverpool, the reigning Premier League champions, went into half-time ahead thanks to a clever Dominik Szoboszlai free-kick right on the interval. They extended their lead midway through the second half when Marseille goalkeeper Gerónimo Rulli turned the ball into his own net, before Cody Gakpo wrapped up the win with a stoppage-time strike.
Following the final whistle, Kerkez took to social media after noticing a message from a supporter who had previously criticised him.
“Critics Give Me More Fuel”
Despite being regarded as one of the Premier League’s top left-backs, Kerkez experienced a challenging introduction to life at Anfield after completing a £40 million move from Bournemouth last summer. Expectations were high, and his early performances drew criticism as he adapted to his new surroundings.
In recent months, however, the 21-year-old has grown in confidence and delivered a string of impressive displays. He has cemented his place in the team despite competition from Scotland captain and two-time league winner Andy Robertson.
One fan who openly admitted being wrong was X (formerly Twitter) user @Corballyred, who wrote after the Marseille win:
“Accept my apologies Milos Kerkez. I was way too quick to judge you. I can see now why you were voted the best left back in the Premier League last season.”
Kerkez replied simply but powerfully:
“It’s ok bro, critics give me even more fuel.”
The supporter responded again, praising his recent form and admitting he had gone from doubter to believer.
“I Want More”
Speaking before the match, Kerkez acknowledged that his form has improved after needing time to settle at one of the world’s biggest clubs.
“I think every player needs time to adapt,” he said. “I got help from everyone — the manager, the players, the staff. In the last month or so I’ve improved in many areas, but I’m still not satisfied. I want more.”
He also paid tribute to Robertson, describing the Liverpool left-back as a club legend and an invaluable influence.
“It’s a privilege to be next to such a player,” Kerkez added. “I’m learning all the time. I just want to keep improving.”
Kerkez and Liverpool return to action on Saturday, January 24, when they travel to the south coast to face his former club Bournemouth.
