Tottenham are considering a move to sign an “unstoppable” £25 million-rated star, who could become Son Heung-min’s long-term successor.
Tottenham Hotspur were under huge pressure heading into their Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund, but Thomas Frank’s side eased the tension with a 2-0 victory that offered a timely reprieve.
However, that lift could quickly disappear if Spurs suffer defeat away at Burnley in the Premier League this weekend, with the campaign already marked by several false starts. Much of the criticism has focused on Tottenham’s lack of cutting edge in attack, yet against Dortmund they generated 1.97 expected goals in a convincing display. Following Son Heung-min’s departure last summer and Mohammed Kudus’ recent long-term muscle injury, supporters are clearly expecting reinforcements before the January window closes.
Spurs eye late transfer opportunity
Tottenham have already brought in Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid to help cover Rodrigo Bentancur’s injury, adding experience and steel to midfield. But attacking options remain thin. Kudus and Richarlison are sidelined, Brennan Johnson has been sold to Crystal Palace, and Mathys Tel is unsettled after being left out of Frank’s Champions League squad, with Paris FC showing interest.
With the forward line lacking spark, technical director Johan Lange is reportedly targeting a new attacking option. According to the Daily Mail, Spurs are exploring a move for West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville and are prepared to submit a £25 million bid. Although West Ham are struggling under Nuno Espirito Santo, Tottenham are in need of a left-sided attacker and maintain strong relations with their London rivals after last year’s Kudus deal. Journalist Ben Jacobs reports that discussions have already begun, though no formal offer has yet been submitted.
Should Tel’s exit accelerate before the end of the month, this potential deal could gather momentum.
Why Spurs are interested in Summerville
Dominic Solanke impressed at centre-forward in midweek, providing a strong focal point, offering encouragement for Frank as he looks to rebuild momentum. Even so, additional attacking support is needed, and Summerville could represent a smart acquisition.
The Dutch winger has recorded three goals and six assists since joining West Ham from Leeds, but the Hammers’ attacking output has dipped since David Moyes’ departure. Despite this, Summerville continues to stand out with his pace, sharp dribbling and direct style. He previously claimed the 2023/24 Championship Player of the Year award after scoring 19 goals and registering nine assists for Leeds.
While Son remains an irreplaceable figure, Summerville’s athleticism and attacking intent could provide a similar profile on the left flank. Described as “unstoppable” by statistician David O’Brien, the winger combines speed, skill and defensive work rate, although he is still developing the physical side of his game.
His recent performance against Tottenham highlighted his threat, reinforcing the belief that his potential has been evident for some time. Spurs now view Summerville as a genuine prospect, and following the successful capture of Kudus last summer, another move for a dynamic wide attacker could further strengthen Frank’s evolving frontline.
