Arne Slot outlines his expectations for Liverpool’s January transfer window

Speaking at his press conference on Friday, as reported by journalist David Lynch, Arne Slot suggested that Liverpool are unlikely to make any signings during the January transfer window.

Slot indicated that he expects the winter period to pass without reinforcements, a view echoed by Lynch on X, who quoted the Liverpool head coach as saying: “That’s what I expect, yeah,” when asked if the club would finish January without new arrivals.

Liverpool were heavily active in the summer, investing significant sums to bring in players such as Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez. Given that those changes have yet to translate into a consistently positive campaign, it is understandable that the club may be reluctant to spend further this month.

For now, the focus appears to be on Slot getting more out of his existing squad and driving improvement during the second half of the season.

At present, there are no glaring weaknesses that demand immediate attention, making a patient approach until the summer window a sensible option. January deals are often difficult to complete, and Liverpool may also want clarity on the futures of some key players.

Mohamed Salah’s performances over the coming months could prove pivotal, while Ibrahima Konate is approaching the final stages of his contract. Whether replacements are required remains uncertain, but those decisions may be better addressed later in the year rather than rushed now.
