Cristian Romero struck a dramatic late equaliser for Tottenham, only to be substituted moments later after an ill-judged celebration that saw him kick an advertising board.

The Spurs captain salvaged a point in Saturday’s thrilling 2-2 draw away at Burnley, firing home in the 90th minute to crush the Clarets’ hopes of a vital win.

Chaos followed almost instantly.

The Argentine sprinted towards the travelling Tottenham supporters in wild celebration, his emotion and intensity on full display as he soaked in the moment.

But the defender went a step too far.

In extraordinary scenes, Romero roared with delight before smashing an advertising hoarding with force. The act appeared to backfire immediately, as he spun away clutching himself and shouting in visible discomfort.

With only minutes remaining, Romero looked to have hurt himself in the process, and concerns were heightened when manager Thomas Frank promptly withdrew his match-winner.
