Liverpool supporters left shocked by Andy Robertson price tag as Spurs move edges closer
Andy Robertson looks increasingly likely to seal a move from Liverpool to Tottenham before the winter transfer window closes — and the reported fee has left Reds supporters fuming.
With the February 2 deadline fast approaching, clubs are scrambling to strengthen for the second half of the campaign. Spurs have already bolstered their squad by signing Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid for £34 million, but Thomas Frank is eager to add more reinforcements as he attempts to revive another difficult season in North London.
Tottenham are once again struggling domestically, sitting 14th in the Premier League with just seven wins so far, following last season’s disappointing 17th-place finish. However, they remain well placed to progress to the next stage of the Champions League.
As talks intensify ahead of deadline day, Frank has turned his attention to Liverpool left-back Robertson, who is entering the final months of his contract. A January exit is now on the cards, with Spurs and Liverpool currently in discussions.
According to Sky Sports reporter Vinny O’Connor, a deal worth around £5 million is being considered. He adds that early negotiations are already underway, with a resolution expected in the coming days.
The emergence of that figure has sparked outrage among Liverpool fans, who have been vocal online about their opposition to the move.
One supporter wrote: “I really don’t understand the logic in this deal at all. Robbo has the experience and is a great backup to Kerkez — he still has a big role to play.”
Another questioned: “Really? Robbo for £5m?”
A third added: “I’d rather keep our best left-back ever and vice-captain than sell him for £5m mid-season to a team we could face in the Champions League knockouts.”
Others pointed the finger at sporting director Richard Hughes, with one fan commenting: “For £5m, keep him. He’s still a solid player and having Kerkez and Robbo at left-back is a strong option. Hughes seems to be forgetting our defensive injury problems.”
Robertson has largely played a supporting role since Milos Kerkez arrived last summer, featuring in 21 matches this season, including 13 Premier League appearances — many of them from the bench.
Despite his reduced role, many Liverpool supporters feel the club should not greenlight a mid-season departure, especially for such a modest fee, given Robertson’s experience, leadership and continued value to the squad.
