Alasdair Gold has shed light on whether Tottenham could reignite their interest in Andy Robertson after Liverpool initially blocked the move.
Robertson appeared to hint that his outing against Bournemouth on Saturday might be his last in a Liverpool shirt, waving to the travelling supporters at full-time. That moment came amid growing speculation linking the Scotland international with a low-cost switch to Spurs.
Tottenham’s hopes took a hit on Sunday when it was reported that Liverpool had halted the transfer due to a lack of cover at left-back. Gold explains that Spurs had actually reached an agreement in principle for the 31-year-old last week, but Liverpool reversed their decision because they were unable to recall Kostas Tsimikas from AS Roma.
According to Gold, the deal could still be revived if Roma manage to sign a replacement and allow Tsimikas to return to Anfield. Writing on X, he said that all parties were initially keen to push ahead with the move after Liverpool’s final Champions League fixture, but time is now running short.
Not all Tottenham supporters would be unhappy if the deal falls through. Some fans believe Robertson is past his peak, while others are wary of the high wages he would likely command despite a relatively small transfer fee. Although missing out on Robertson would not be disastrous, supporters would be increasingly concerned if Spurs fail to add any new faces before the February 2 deadline.
