Tottenham Scramble to Complete Key January Signing, Targeting £50m-Rated Star in Final Push

Tottenham’s interest in Maghnes Akliouche was first reported in September, and he remains a top target for the club. The 23-year-old, primarily a right-winger but also effective in attacking midfield, has recorded three goals and five assists in 26 appearances across all competitions this season.

However, Monaco have yet to receive formal contact from Tottenham, and sources indicate that a last-minute approach would not be welcomed. The delay has hindered Spurs’ chances of securing Akliouche, a frustration that has been familiar in north London this month.

Tottenham are eager to make an attacking addition before the transfer window closes, but their cautious approach could force them to pay a premium or risk missing out, especially with the future of a key Spurs player uncertain. Transfer decisions are further complicated by uncertainty over Thomas Frank’s tenure, as any incoming manager might have different priorities.

Tottenham have consistently pursued a significant attacking signing this winter, and Akliouche has been on their radar for months. Despite optimism throughout January, efforts to strengthen the attack have repeatedly fallen short. The club explored deals for targets including Savinho, Kevin Schade, and Antoine Semenyo, all of whom were preferred by Frank, but none materialized, leaving Spurs’ offensive reinforcements uncertain.

Other players considered this month include Yan Diomande and Christian Tzolis, yet Akliouche is seen as the most realistic option. Tottenham have conducted thorough scouting and financial assessments for the Monaco star, with a potential deal expected to cost around £50 million (€58m, $68.5m) as the deadline approaches.

In parallel, Tottenham have had to consider the possible departure of Randal Kolo Muani following Juventus’ enquiry. Any exit would require finding a replacement, though sources confirm Kolo Muani’s long-term future at Spurs is unlikely.

Tottenham are also evaluating a late striker signing, with Manchester United’s Joshua Zirkzee and Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta reportedly on their radar. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky is close to joining West Ham United on loan, including an option to buy. Spurs are reportedly interested in Mads Hermansen as a potential replacement.
