Timo Werner’s contract with RB Leipzig has been terminated after he featured just three times this season.
The former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur forward is now set for a move to Major League Soccer following his departure from the German side.

Werner returned to Leipzig last summer after spending 18 months on loan at Spurs in the Premier League.
However, he managed only 13 minutes of Bundesliga action this campaign, prompting the club to end his deal.

The 29-year-old is not expected to remain without a team for long, having agreed to join San Jose Earthquakes.
His arrival as a designated player is due to be finalised ahead of the 2026 MLS season.

Werner will link up with his new club after the birth of his child.
Sky Germany reports that Leipzig paid a £1.73million settlement to the striker as part of the termination.

Werner’s struggles

The forward re-signed for Leipzig in 2022, just two years after completing a £47.5million move to Chelsea.
However, he was unable to rediscover the form he showed during his initial spell with the Bundesliga club.
