“I’m in discussions with…” — Tottenham confirm interest in star previously linked to Arsenal joke

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Bayern Munich winger and former Arsenal player Serge Gnabry, according to Christian Falk of CF Bayern Insider.

The German journalist reports that Gnabry is currently in negotiations with Bayern over a new contract, but Spurs have also made contact to register their interest should the forward decide to leave the Allianz Arena.

In his latest column, Falk wrote: “It is true: Tottenham are also interested in Serge Gnabry. The forward is already in discussions with Bayern Munich about extending his contract.”

He continued: “A two-year deal is on the table, and at the moment he appears open to staying at Bayern. Gnabry has effectively said, ‘I’m speaking with Bayern Munich right now. Thanks for the interest, but if things work out here, I’ll stay.’ Tottenham have made it clear that they are ready to move if an agreement isn’t reached.”

Gnabry’s potential move to north London is complicated by his history with Spurs. The winger memorably scored four times against them in Bayern’s 7–2 win in 2019 and later took a swipe on social media, posting ‘North London is Red’ in reference to his Arsenal past.

Given the intensity of the Spurs–Arsenal rivalry, that episode is unlikely to be forgotten by supporters, and it could make Gnabry a controversial target. While Tottenham are in need of added attacking quality after a challenging first half of the season, his Arsenal connections mean any deal would come with baggage.

As a result, Gnabry would likely need to make an immediate impact on the pitch to win over a fanbase still mindful of his previous jibe.
