Tottenham Hotspur have opened talks over a possible late-January move for Real Madrid forward Brahim Diaz, according to TEAMtalk.
Spurs have made an initial enquiry about the 26-year-old Morocco international following his return from the Africa Cup of Nations. Diaz was a central figure at the tournament, though his missed Panenka penalty in the final proved costly as Senegal went on to claim victory in extra time. Despite that moment, he was widely regarded as one of the standout performers at AFCON.
Since returning to the Santiago Bernabéu earlier this month, Diaz has struggled for regular minutes under caretaker manager Álvaro Arbeloa. His situation at Real Madrid is not expected to improve in the near future, particularly following the departure of Xabi Alonso, which has seen him fall down the pecking order.
As a result, sources close to the player suggest his representatives have begun exploring alternative options across Europe. Serie A side Como, managed by Cesc Fàbregas, are among the clubs contacted, with Diaz viewed as a potential replacement for Nico Paz, who is expected to return to Real Madrid at the end of the season.
Tottenham are reported to be one of three Premier League clubs approached regarding a possible mid-season move, alongside Newcastle United and Aston Villa. While Real Madrid are currently reluctant to sanction a departure before the transfer deadline, sources in Spain have indicated that a late exit cannot be ruled out.
In addition to their interest in Diaz, Tottenham have also made contact regarding two high-profile wingers as the window nears its conclusion. Spurs are said to be monitoring a potential late move for Al-Ittihad winger Moussa Diaby, amid Inter Milan’s interest, with the former Aston Villa player keen on a return to European football.
Tottenham have also made a late enquiry for Bayern Munich winger Serge Gnabry. The 30-year-old Germany international is currently contracted at the Allianz Arena, with Bayern reportedly open to discussions over his future.
