Tottenham have been encouraged to consider a free-transfer move for Raheem Sterling following the official confirmation of his release from Chelsea yesterday.

The former Liverpool and Manchester City winger is now on the market as a free agent, and it’s expected that several high-profile clubs could be tempted to take a chance on him, particularly on a short-term basis.

That is exactly the route ex-Spurs midfielder Jamie O’Hara believes Tottenham should explore. Speaking to talkSPORT, the pundit suggested Sterling would still represent an upgrade on Spurs’ current attacking options.

O’Hara feels the England international could be persuaded to sign a deal running until the end of the season and is confident the winger could make a meaningful contribution during that period.

Discussing Sterling’s next move after leaving Chelsea, O’Hara said he would have no hesitation in bringing him to north London, describing Sterling as a quality player who remains superior to Tottenham’s existing forwards.

He added that he would offer Sterling a short-term contract if the player were open to it, while acknowledging that more lucrative long-term offers—potentially from Saudi Arabia—could also be on the table.

However, O’Hara believes that if Sterling still has the desire to compete in the Premier League, Tottenham should be willing to give him that opportunity.

Could Sterling join another ‘big six’ club?

Sterling has already represented four of the Premier League’s traditional ‘big six’ sides. He began his career at Liverpool before joining Manchester City in 2015, where he scored 131 goals in 339 appearances.

He later moved to Chelsea and spent last season on loan at Arsenal.

A move to Spurs would add another major club to his résumé, leaving Manchester United as the only big-six side he would not have featured for—a curious twist in an already well-travelled top-flight career.
