Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly considering an unexpected move to sign Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling.
Raheem Sterling spent last season on loan at Arsenal, where he recorded six goal contributions in 28 appearances, with only two of those coming in the Premier League. Despite being unable to secure a permanent move in the summer, the England international was not reintegrated into Chelsea’s first team and instead trained with the club’s academy sides.
Although his recent form has raised questions, Sterling is still regarded as a player capable of making an impact, especially for a side like Tottenham Hotspur, who could benefit from his experience and attacking quality in the final third. According to reports, Sterling has agreed to terminate his Chelsea contract and become a free agent, with his representatives already holding discussions with several clubs ahead of a potential move.
Tottenham are the latest club to enter the race for the experienced winger, with CaughtOffside claiming that the North London outfit have shown interest in signing him this month. The report adds that Sterling is prepared to take a substantial wage reduction, accepting around one-third of the £324,000-per-week salary he earned at Chelsea.
However, Thomas Frank’s side face strong competition. Several Premier League clubs, including West Ham United, Fulham, Brentford and Crystal Palace, are monitoring the situation, while European heavyweights such as Juventus, Napoli and Bayern Munich are also said to be interested. In addition, teams from Major League Soccer have approached Sterling over a possible transfer.
Sterling remains one of the most experienced forwards in Premier League history, having made 396 appearances in the competition. He ranks 20th on the league’s all-time scoring chart with 123 goals, achieved during spells at Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal. His experience could prove valuable as Tottenham look to improve on a disappointing start to the campaign, having won just seven of their opening 23 matches.
Nevertheless, concerns remain over his match fitness, as Sterling has not featured in a competitive game since the final match of the 2024/25 season — a 2–1 victory over Southampton on 25 May 2025.
