Duran has been described by talent scout Jacek Kulig as a “true monster” for his explosive attacking displays under Unai Emery at Villa. Known for his pace, power and impact off the bench, he built a reputation as a devastating super-sub, capable of changing games in an instant.
Statistically, Duran has been more clinical than Mateta during his Premier League spell, missing fewer big chances and showing a ruthless edge in front of goal. His left-footed shooting power and ability to strike from range have even drawn comparisons to Gareth Bale, with that same blend of strength, speed and eye-catching finishes.
With his profile and potential, Duran is viewed as a more suitable addition than Mateta, who would likely command a starting role and comes with a hefty £40m price tag. Spurs believe the Colombian’s qualities could add a new dimension to their attack as they look to steady their season.
