Spurs Rally Late to Earn Thrilling Draw Against Manchester City
Tottenham Hotspur showed real resilience to snatch a point in a pulsating 2–2 Premier League draw with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City on Sunday night. Spurs looked set for defeat after first-half goals from Rayan Cherki and Antoine Semenyo, but a spirited second-half response ensured the hosts salvaged a share of the spoils.
City made a fast start, taking the lead just over ten minutes in. Erling Haaland combined neatly with Bernardo Silva before unselfishly teeing up Cherki, who shifted the ball onto his left foot and drilled a composed finish into the bottom corner. The visitors doubled their lead moments before the interval when Semenyo struck to put City firmly in control.
Tottenham’s comeback began after the break. Dominic Solanke injected belief with a surging run into the City penalty area, forcing a goal that was officially credited as a Marc Guehi own goal. Seventeen minutes later, Solanke delivered a moment of brilliance, acrobatically looping a scorpion kick over Gianluigi Donnarumma to restore parity. Despite late pressure from both sides, neither could find a decisive winner.
Spurs 2–2 City: A Lone Positive Amid Injury Chaos
Tottenham struggled to find rhythm in the opening half, with few standout performances. Conor Gallagher and Yves Bissouma were slow and ineffective in midfield, Solanke was largely anonymous early on, and Guglielmo Vicario failed to assert authority in his box.
Radu Dragusin endured a particularly difficult evening. The Romanian defender, who joined from Genoa in January 2024, has found opportunities limited at Spurs, largely due to the established partnership of Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero. Across two seasons, Dragusin has made only 39 appearances, accumulating 2,610 minutes.
Having only recently returned from a serious knee injury in December, the 23-year-old had barely featured in league action before being drafted into the starting XI due to Van de Ven’s absence. Constant pressure from City’s attacking trio of Cherki, Haaland and Semenyo exposed Spurs defensively, leaving Dragusin under sustained strain.
Context, however, matters. Tottenham were without 12 injured players and had just 12 senior outfield options available. Dragusin himself was making his first start in over a year, compounding the difficulty of the task.
