Tottenham receive clarity on Leon Goretzka transfer after official announcement

Tottenham did not have to wait long for clarity over a potential move for Leon Goretzka from Bayern Munich during this transfer window.
Spurs were linked with the German midfielder earlier in the week after reports suggested he was close to making a decision on his future at Bayern. With his contract at the Allianz Arena set to expire in the summer, Goretzka had attracted interest from several clubs, including Atletico Madrid.
On Friday, an official update was delivered regarding the midfielder’s situation.
Leon Goretzka Set to Depart Bayern Munich
Goretzka has been at Bayern since 2018, collecting six Bundesliga titles and lifting the Champions League in 2020. However, Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund has now confirmed that the 30-year-old will leave the club at the end of the season.
That announcement also means Goretzka will not be moving before Monday night’s deadline, ruling out any chance of Tottenham securing his signature in the coming days.
The Germany international is expected to draw even greater attention ahead of the summer transfer window, though it remains unclear whether Spurs will enter the race.
Why Goretzka Would Be a Major Boost for Spurs
It is easy to understand why clubs like Atletico Madrid and Tottenham are monitoring Goretzka’s situation. According to Sofascore data, he averages 2.5 ball recoveries per game across all competitions this season, boasts a 92 per cent pass completion rate, and wins around half of his duels — key attributes for controlling midfield battles.
Goretzka has featured 28 times this season, starting 16 matches, underlining his continued importance to Vincent Kompany despite often being used as a rotation option.
While Tottenham possess midfielders with similar profiles, none offer the same level of all-round influence. If the opportunity arises to pursue Goretzka in the summer, it is a move Spurs should seriously consider.
