Tottenham weigh up move for former £19m Chelsea player now in Saudi Arabia
Tottenham Hotspur have looked into a potential move for a versatile Brazilian winger as the transfer window enters its final stages.
From a Spurs standpoint, deadline day has been quiet and there is little expectation that activity will pick up before the window closes. Supporters may have hoped for a late attacking addition, but there are no signs that another senior signing is imminent.
The nearest Tottenham came to completing business on deadline day was the arrival of James Wilson. However, the 18-year-old striker from Hearts is set to join the academy setup rather than immediately linking up with the first team. Meanwhile, reports suggest Spurs are unlikely to secure Monaco forward Maghnes Akliouche, despite recent speculation connecting him with a move to north London.
Tottenham monitoring a Saudi Pro League winger
According to AS journalist Eduardo Burgos, Tottenham have been keeping tabs on a promising Brazilian attacker in recent days. Al-Nassr winger Ângelo Gabriel is said to have caught the attention of the Premier League side.
However, Burgos adds that the Saudi Pro League club have no intention of selling the 21-year-old. Gabriel previously joined Chelsea from Santos for £13 million before being sold on to Al-Nassr for a £6 million profit, despite never making a competitive appearance for the Blues.
Whether Spurs continue to monitor Gabriel with a view to a possible summer move remains to be seen. The winger has registered four goals and six assists in 27 appearances this season.
Have Spurs failed to back Thomas Frank this January?
In the build-up to the January transfer window, strengthening the wide attacking areas was widely reported to be Tottenham’s main objective. Despite that, the club have chosen not to add further attacking options, even as Thomas Frank contends with a growing injury list.
