Alasdair Gold rules out three late Tottenham transfers
Football.London’s Alasdair Gold reports that while Spurs haven’t completely abandoned the idea of a dramatic deadline-day deal, their focus may be on short-term loan options to bolster the forward line amid the injury crisis.
However, Gold confirms that Monaco do not expect Maghnes Akliouche to join Spurs in the closing hours. He also notes that internal sources have ruled out moves for Jhon Duran and Moussa Diaby.
Matt Law says Spurs are ‘unlikely’ to sign anyone else
The Telegraph’s Matt Law also dampens fans’ hopes, stating that although “you can never say never,” the likelihood of another arrival at Hotspur Way before the 7 pm deadline is “unlikely.”
Law agrees with Gold that Duran and Diaby are not targets and adds that Mathys Tel and Randal Kolo Muani will remain at their current clubs.
Spurs may face competition for summer ‘dream’ target
Looking ahead to the summer, Tottenham have been warned that landing their dream midfield target will not be straightforward. The club has already strengthened the midfield this window with Conor Gallagher, who has made an immediate impact.
Yet fans recognize that creativity and ball progression remain a problem, with Rodrigo Bentancur, Joao Palhinha, and Pape Sarr struggling to consistently deliver in those areas. Reports suggest Spurs view Adam Wharton as a “dream” signing and are prepared to invest heavily to bring the Crystal Palace midfielder to North London.
Competition for Wharton expected
TEAMtalk reported last week that Manchester United could compete for Wharton, and journalist Pete O’Rourke now adds that Liverpool and Chelsea are likely to pursue him as well. Speaking to Football Insider, O’Rourke said:
“I don’t see Palace willing to let him go given everything else at the club. There will be interest in Adam Wharton this summer. Liverpool and Manchester United admire him, and other Premier League sides and clubs abroad are also monitoring him. Palace will face a real fight to keep him.”
Wharton’s price may be lower than first reported
Last summer, Palace reportedly valued Wharton at £100m. Recent reports suggest Spurs could negotiate a deal around £65m plus add-ons at the end of this season. However, it’s likely Tottenham would struggle to secure him without Champions League qualification.
