Conor Gallagher has praised a Tottenham team-mate as “top class” and believes he will continue to improve after an eye-catching performance in Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Manchester City.
Spurs land James Wilson on deadline day
Tottenham spent much of deadline day locked in a battle with Arsenal for Hearts striker James Wilson. The 18-year-old emerged as one of the surprise names of the final hours, with both North London rivals pushing to secure his signature before the 7pm deadline.
Wilson enjoyed a breakout season with Hearts, scoring six goals, and Arsenal initially appeared to be leading the race following weekend talks. However, Spurs swooped late to complete a dramatic hijack.
Gallagher lauds Simons after City comeback
While one youngster arrived, Gallagher was quick to highlight another already making an impact at the club. Spurs struggled through a poor first half in N17, but Xavi Simons sparked the revival with a superb outside-of-the-boot pass to set up Dominic Solanke’s contentious opener. Gallagher then delivered the cross for Solanke’s brilliant backheel equaliser in the 70th minute.
The stadium erupted, and although Simons was later denied a dramatic winner by a fine save, it capped another impressive display from the Dutch playmaker. It continued his growing influence following a mixed start after his £51.8m move in August.
Gallagher believes Tottenham have a special talent on their hands.
“He’s a brilliant player and exactly the kind of guy you want in your team,” he said. “He works incredibly hard, has a real desire to win, and brings passion and quality. He’s only going to get better — he’s top.”
“He wants the ball, he drives forward, creates chances and scores. He’s great.”
Spurs boss Thomas Frank echoed the praise, describing Simons as exceptional and highlighting his intensity, fighting spirit and role in pushing the team forward.
Tottenham’s comeback ensured they avoided another home defeat. While they remain unbeaten in four matches, they have won just two of their last 15 league games. Injury concerns persist, with several defenders sidelined, though there is optimism some could return in the coming weeks.
