Tottenham Hotspur are preparing to appoint a replacement for Fabio Paratici after the club decided against fully backing Johan Lange for the role.
Tottenham Hotspur are moving towards appointing a replacement for Fabio Paratici after opting not to place full trust in Johan Lange to oversee recruitment.
According to The Telegraph, Spurs are planning to bring in a new senior recruitment figure following Paratici’s departure to Fiorentina, instead of handing complete control to Lange. The club is keen to maintain its preferred two-man sporting director structure, particularly amid growing criticism of Lange’s role in Tottenham’s limited activity during the January transfer window.
The situation gained further attention after Cristian Romero appeared to criticise the club’s transfer business shortly after the window closed. The Argentine defender took to social media, describing it as “disgraceful” that Spurs had recently been left with just 11 senior players available, a post widely interpreted as frustration over the lack of new signings.
Tottenham’s first January arrival was young left-back Souza from Brazilian side Santos. Given his age and profile, the defender is not expected to feature regularly in the first team and did little to strengthen Thomas Frank’s immediate options. While the signing of Conor Gallagher was viewed as a positive step, the club failed to adequately replace Brennan Johnson following his move to Crystal Palace.
Speaking after the transfer window shut, Lange addressed the club’s quiet January, pointing to the lack of opportunities in the market.
“There were simply not many available players across the whole marketplace during January. I saw this as one of the quieter January windows across not only the Premier League, but across football in general,” Lange said.
Despite those comments, questions remain among supporters, particularly as other clubs were still able to complete deals, while Spurs ended the window short of the reinforcements many felt were necessary for the remainder of the season.
