The 20-year-old defender, who could require surgery, is likely to miss the rest of the season in France, potentially delaying his move to Merseyside.
Jacquet was injured in the 69th minute after landing awkwardly from a challenge, signaling for help before being assisted off the pitch. Rennes coach Habib Beye described the injury as “serious,” and reports now indicate surgery may be needed for a full recovery. If operated on, Jacquet will be sidelined for several months, ending his season with his boyhood club.
The setback is particularly disappointing for Jacquet, who had hoped to finish his time at Rennes on a high note before officially joining Liverpool on July 1.
Liverpool, who secured the defender for £60 million in the January transfer window, will maintain close contact with Rennes’ medical staff.
