Tottenham are reportedly considering a summer move for former manager Mauricio Pochettino following the USA’s World Cup campaign, but Real Madrid could now complicate their plans.

Despite Spurs appointing Igor Tudor as interim manager until the end of the season, Fabrizio Romano reports that Pochettino and De Zerbi are the leading candidates to take over permanently in June. Pochettino remains the fans’ favourite, with supporters chanting his name during Thomas Frank’s final match against Newcastle.

During his five-year spell, Pochettino guided Spurs to four consecutive top-four Premier League finishes and a Champions League final, transforming the club into genuine contenders before his unexpected dismissal. Tudor’s contract contains no option for a permanent role, running only until June, which allows Tottenham to pursue a long-term target once the season concludes. Pochettino’s current commitments with the USA team meant the club turned to Tudor as a temporary solution. He will manage the Americans through this summer’s World Cup, delaying any potential return to Spurs until at least July.

Spanish reports claim Tottenham are working to secure Pochettino’s return after the tournament. The 53-year-old has frequently expressed his affection for Spurs since leaving, criticising the club’s declining ambitions while hinting at openness to a comeback. His recent presence in London, dining with coaching staff member Toni Jiménez, fueled speculation, though sources caution it may not indicate formal negotiations.

However, with several months to consider his next move, Pochettino could attract interest from other clubs. Real Madrid are reportedly among those prepared to compete for his signature. Defensa Central reports that Pochettino would be willing to take the Bernabéu job on the condition that president Florentino Pérez delivers three specific summer signings: two centre-backs and a central midfielder, which he considers essential to maximise the squad’s potential.
