Tottenham Hotspur are not in discussions with Enzo Maresca, despite recent speculation, as developments surrounding Mauricio Pochettino take a fresh turn.

Igor Tudor has taken charge at Spurs until the end of the season following the club’s decision to dismiss Thomas Frank last week. While some pundits have questioned the appointment of the 47-year-old, the Lilywhites are hoping his experience of stepping into clubs mid-season will prove valuable at N17.

Reports suggest Tottenham have informed Tudor that he is unlikely to be offered the role on a permanent basis, with Pochettino and Roberto De Zerbi emerging as the club’s primary long-term targets.

In recent days, some outlets claimed Spurs had identified Maresca as their preferred candidate to establish a clear identity at the club. However, journalist Fabrizio Romano has stated that the Italian, who left Chelsea at the beginning of the year, has had no contact with the North London side. Romano added that Maresca remains the leading contender to succeed Pep Guardiola at Manchester City should the Spaniard depart in the summer.

Romano wrote on X that there have been no talks between Tottenham and Maresca despite the recent links, and that the 46-year-old is still viewed as the clear favourite to become Manchester City’s next head coach if Guardiola decides to leave.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that Tottenham have held multiple conversations with Pochettino since the start of the year about a possible return. It is claimed the club are working intensively to reach an agreement with the Argentine, who has emerged as the leading choice as Spurs aim to re-establish their identity.

Some sources suggest the former Spurs boss would welcome the opportunity to return to N17, five and a half years after his exit. However, a recent report has indicated that Real Madrid could provide competition in the pursuit of Pochettino.
