Liverpool supporters can relax regarding Alexis Mac Allister’s future after Fabrizio Romano dismissed claims of a potential move to Manchester United.
Fabrizio Romano has responded to fresh speculation linking Alexis Mac Allister with a surprise transfer to Manchester United.
Reports from The Mirror suggested that figures at Old Trafford are considering a move for the Liverpool midfielder, with co-owner Jim Ratcliffe said to be keen should the opportunity arise.
Mac Allister, 27, still has just under two-and-a-half years remaining on his Liverpool contract, earning £150,000 per week — a figure surpassed by only seven teammates at Anfield.
Romano plays down the speculation
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano made it clear he is “not aware of anything really concrete or strong” regarding the rumoured move. While he expects United to be very active in strengthening their midfield this summer, he indicated that this particular story lacks substance.
Romano did mention that players such as Elliot Anderson, Carlos Baleba and Sandro Tonali are admired at Old Trafford. However, he stressed that the club’s transfer direction will depend heavily on appointing a permanent manager and determining whether they secure Champions League qualification.
Liverpool unlikely to sell to a rival
Despite the widespread nature of the report, it is extremely difficult to imagine Liverpool sanctioning a sale to one of their fiercest rivals — particularly when it involves a key starter who played a pivotal role in last season’s Premier League title win.
Only two weeks ago, Mac Allister’s father, Carlos, dismissed talk of a move to Real Madrid, insisting the Argentine is “very happy and very comfortable” on Merseyside.
While the midfielder has not consistently matched the levels he hit during the 2024/25 campaign — leading to some suggestions he could be rotated — he delivered a strong display in the 3-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion at the weekend.
He has featured in every Premier League match for which he’s been available this season, starting all but four — underlining how highly he is valued by Arne Slot. The idea of selling him, particularly to Manchester United, would be unthinkable for many Liverpool supporters.
As Romano emphasised, there are still major uncertainties at Old Trafford before concrete transfer plans can be formed. For now, Liverpool fans can remain calm — a cross-Manchester raid for Mac Allister appears highly improbable.
