“We’ll see what happens…” – Alexis Mac Allister’s father breaks his silence amid shock Manchester United speculation.
Carlos Mac Allister has responded to fresh speculation linking his son, Alexis Mac Allister, with a surprise switch to Manchester United FC.
Earlier this week, The Mirror reported that figures at Old Trafford are exploring the possibility of signing the Liverpool FC midfielder. It was claimed that co-owner Jim Ratcliffe would be interested in making a move for the 27-year-old should he become available.
However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano played down the rumours, explaining that although United are expected to be active in strengthening their midfield in the summer, he is not aware of anything concrete regarding the Argentina international.
Carlos Mac Allister responds
Speaking to WinWin, Mac Allister’s father stressed that his son’s focus remains solely on Liverpool and revealed that they are awaiting a proposal to extend his current contract at Anfield.
“Alexis is only thinking about Liverpool right now. We’re waiting for an offer to renew his deal. We’ll see what the club’s plans are,” he said.
When asked whether the midfielder would consider a move abroad if an agreement cannot be reached, Carlos added: “We’ll wait and see what happens with the renewal. That’s all.”
Contract situation at Anfield
This is not the first time Mac Allister’s father has publicly dismissed transfer talk involving the Reds’ number 10. Just two weeks ago, he addressed renewed links with Real Madrid CF, whom the Argentine famously scored against in a Champions League clash in November.
With his current Liverpool deal running until June 2028, there is no immediate urgency to finalise an extension. However, Carlos’ comments suggest that Alexis would welcome the club making the first move.
The Argentine may also be mindful that Dominik Szoboszlai — who joined Liverpool in the same summer and has a similarly long contract — has already begun discussions over a new deal.
Despite the noise surrounding United’s reported interest, it seems highly unlikely Liverpool would entertain selling a key figure to a direct rival. For now, Mac Allister’s future appears firmly tied to Anfield, even if his father would prefer the contract situation to be resolved sooner rather than later.
