The NFL star, 32, and the Grammy-winning rapper, 33, have publicly spent time together on multiple recent occasions since their split earlier this year, sparking rumors of a reconciliation. Now, a source tells PEOPLE they’ve overcome some tension in the relationship.
“Cardi pulled away from the drama in February,” says the source. “She didn’t trust him and felt like things were going on behind her back. She wasn’t in a place emotionally to deal with fighting and tension.”

The source notes the “WAP” rapper “needed to just finish” her Little Miss Drama Tour, which ran from February to April, and “have stability for her kids.” Cardi shares a son, born in November 2025, with Diggs. She’s also mom to three kids with estranged husband Offset, whom she’s still legally married to, as their divorce hasn’t been finalized yet.
The “Bodak Yellow” rapper “never closed the door completely” on her relationship with Diggs, says the source. “He stepped it up a few weeks ago and showed her that he wants to make it work.”
“It was enough of an effort to get her attention,” the source continues. “She still cares about him a lot.”

Earlier this week, Cardi attended the football player’s Diggs Deep Foundation wellness event celebrating Mother’s Day in Washington, D.C. There, the pair was spotted packing on some PDA as they took photos together.
They previously sparked reconciliation rumors in April, as Diggs attended Cardi’s Little Miss Drama Tour stop at the Capital One Arena. He was then seen attending her afterparty at Throw Social and ultimately driving off from the location with the rapper in the passenger seat.
The pair was first seen publicly together at a New York Knicks playoff game in May 2025, and she confirmed their relationship via Instagram weeks later.
Breakup rumors surrounding Cardi and Diggs bubbled up around the 2026 Super Bowl in February. A source told PEOPLE later in the month that the “Hello” rapper decided to go in a new direction.
