Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool\u2019s record-breaking summer spending has completely altered what it means to be the club\u2019s manager.<\/p>\n
Speaking before the clash with Manchester United, the former Reds defender said Arne Slot must now approach his role like a Real Madrid boss \u2014 at least temporarily.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey\u2019ve brought in a lot of players, and that\u2019s created a few problems for the manager,\u201d Carragher told Sky Sports. \u201cWhen you\u2019ve spent that much money, you have to make it work and find a way to fit those players in. The idea that Florian Wirtz wouldn\u2019t start most weeks just doesn\u2019t make sense. Slot has to find a solution.\u201d<\/p>\n
Carragher compared Liverpool\u2019s transfer activity to that of Real Madrid, saying, \u201cThe summer Liverpool just had was Real Madrid-like \u2014 not what we\u2019re used to seeing from Liverpool. When I played and even under Klopp, the club didn\u2019t usually go out and buy the best players on the market for huge fees. But that\u2019s exactly what happened this time.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAlexander Isak was probably the best striker available, and Wirtz the best No.10 \u2014 and Liverpool paid big for both. That\u2019s what Real Madrid do, and then managers like Del Bosque or Ancelotti have to make it work with what they\u2019re given. That\u2019s the situation Arne Slot is in now.\u201d<\/p>\n
