Why Anfield was ruled out
\nAccording to Mail Sport, Anfield was effectively disqualified from consideration due to UEFA\u2019s strict regulations. Tournament venues must have a pitch measuring 105 metres in length and 68 metres in width \u2014 Anfield\u2019s playing surface falls four metres short of that length requirement.<\/p>\n
A snub despite major upgrades
\nThe decision will come as a disappointment given Anfield\u2019s extensive redevelopment since it last hosted matches at Euro \u201996. Back then, with a capacity of just over 42,000, the stadium witnessed memorable moments including goals from Enrico Chiesa for Italy and future Liverpool man Vladimir Smicer for the Czech Republic.<\/p>\n
Now accommodating over 61,000 fans after the Main Stand and Anfield Road Stand expansions, Anfield stands as one of Europe\u2019s premier football arenas. However, UEFA\u2019s pitch-size restrictions meant it was ineligible regardless of its modern facilities and rich football heritage.<\/p>\n
While Reds supporters may be frustrated to see Everton\u2019s new ground gain the international spotlight, Anfield\u2019s global stature remains unquestioned through Liverpool\u2019s consistent presence in European competitions.<\/p>\n
