Troy Parrott has been turning heads with his outstanding displays for the Republic of Ireland\u2014so much so that it raises the question: should Tottenham Hotspur think about bringing the striker back?<\/p>\n
During the international break, Parrott became the standout name after delivering remarkable performances for Ireland. Heimir Hallgr\u00edmsson\u2019s side looked unlikely to make the World Cup qualifying play-offs, needing wins against both Portugal and Hungary. Parrott stepped up, scoring five goals across the two fixtures, helping his country finish second in their group and keeping his World Cup dream alive.<\/p>\n
Parrott\u2019s scoring form is nothing new<\/p>\n
Although he has suddenly become one of Europe\u2019s in-form attackers thanks to his recent exploits for Ireland, Parrott has been prolific for quite some time. The former Spurs striker has netted 13 goals in just 14 games for AZ Alkmaar this season \u2014 more than all of Tottenham\u2019s forwards combined.<\/p>\n
Before this run, the 23-year-old had already scored 31 Eredivisie goals across his first two seasons in the Netherlands.<\/p>\n
His time in England was less convincing<\/p>\n
It\u2019s encouraging to see Parrott thriving after struggling to break through at Spurs, but there\u2019s a reason the club let him go for a modest fee. He spent time on loan at four different EFL sides but never truly stood out. His best spell was with MK Dons in 2021\/22, where he contributed 10 goals and seven assists in 47 matches \u2014 solid numbers, though achieved in League One, and he never managed to climb higher up the English football ladder.<\/p>\n
That said, he was still a teenager during most of those loan spells and has clearly matured into a much more clinical forward.<\/p>\n
Should Spurs bring him back?<\/p>\n
Parrott\u2019s numbers this season are impressive, even if seven of his goals came in Conference League qualifying. He still has six goals in seven league appearances and now looks sharper than ever for Ireland.<\/p>\n
While he hasn\u2019t proven himself in the Premier League, he\u2019s scoring consistently at every level he\u2019s been placed in \u2014 and sometimes a player simply needs a second chance. Tottenham also included a sell-on clause when they sold him, meaning they would only pay a portion of any potential transfer fee.<\/p>\n
