Real Madrid have apologised after accidentally displaying the wrong Andr\u00e9 Silva in a tribute to former Liverpool striker Diogo Jota and his brother. Jota and his brother Andr\u00e9 were killed in a car crash on July 3, and the club honoured them in a memorial video at their Annual General Meeting. However, the video mistakenly featured a photo of Elche forward Andr\u00e9 da Silva instead of Jota\u2019s brother, who shared the same name.<\/p>\n
In a statement, Madrid said: \u201cReal Madrid C.F. apologises to Elche C.F. and their player Andr\u00e9 da Silva for unintentionally using his image in place of Andr\u00e9 Silva, the brother of Liverpool\u2019s Diogo Jota, in our memorial video. We regret this error.\u201d Club president Florentino P\u00e9rez also acknowledged and apologised for the mistake during his speech.<\/p>\n
The error is especially awkward given that Madrid face Elche on Sunday, and da Silva is a well-known figure, having earned 53 caps for Portugal and played for major clubs such as AC Milan, Porto, Sevilla and Real Sociedad. Madrid had already honoured Jota and his brother on November 3 before their Champions League match against Liverpool.<\/p>\n
At that earlier tribute, Trent Alexander-Arnold led the memorial by laying a wreath and a red PlayStation controller, along with a message to his late friend: \u201cMy mate Diogo. You are so missed and still so loved\u2026 Yours and Andr\u00e9\u2019s memory will always live on.\u201d He was joined by teammate Dean Huijsen, manager Xabi Alonso, and club legend Emilio Butrague\u00f1o.
