Spurs are widely believed to be exploring midfield additions for the winter window \u2014 unsurprising given their struggles to create chances from the centre of the pitch. Xavi Simons has yet to make a real impact since arriving in North London, and doubts remain over whether Bentancur and Palhinha provide enough quality on the ball.<\/p>\n
Recent reports have linked the club with a potential swoop for Napoli\u2019s Scott McTominay, who has significantly elevated his performances since leaving Manchester United for Italy last year. Journalist Pete O\u2019Rourke even suggested the midfielder would be an excellent fit for Thomas Frank\u2019s system.<\/p>\n
But Romano has now stated on his Italian YouTube channel (via BBC Sport) that the 28-year-old is not expected to return to England in January. He went as far as calling the rumours \u201cfantasy\u201d, insisting the Scotland international is settled and content at Napoli. Interestingly, he also noted that the clubs showing concrete interest in McTominay are sides like Everton, who, like Spurs, cannot offer Champions League football.<\/p>\n
Spurs, meanwhile, are also said to be targeting other midfielders with Premier League experience \u2014 a profile they believe can make an instant impact in Frank\u2019s squad, much like Joao Palhinha.
