The sight of fans streaming out of Anfield early for the second time in five days underscored the club’s alarming decline, with Steven Gerrard warning that “serious questions” will inevitably be asked about Slot’s job amid Liverpool’s dramatic fall.

Slot may have only one week to save his job

In a Liverpool Echo piece titled “Arne Slot may well have one week to keep his Liverpool job”, Ian Doyle wrote that the goodwill built during Slot’s stellar debut season has all but vanished.

Doyle acknowledged that the Dutchman has faced a “difficult hand” this season, with multiple issues working against him, but still believes the head coach is “on the brink” of losing his position.

Reflecting on the 4-1 Champions League humiliation against PSV Eindhoven, he wrote:
“This didn’t look like a team fighting for their head coach or each other. Slot must either make bold changes or rethink his entire approach — sticking with this would be self-inflicted damage.”

Doyle stressed that Slot needs an immediate turnaround:
“He needs a reaction. He needs to know the squad are behind him. Most importantly, he needs wins. There is no more wriggle room — enough is enough. Slot may well have next week to keep his job.”

Too early to call for his dismissal — but the questions are unavoidable

No one wants to see a Liverpool manager pushed out, especially one who delivered a stunning Premier League title in his first season and thrived under the pressure of succeeding Jurgen Klopp.

Yet the harsh reality of modern elite football is that such a disastrous run invites scrutiny no matter what came before. Losing is part of the game — but losing this frequently, and this feebly, pushes even the most loyal supporters to their limit.

These concerns are no longer confined to frustrated voices online. When respected, measured journalists like Doyle suggest Slot could be just two matches from the sack — and he’s not alone — the prospect of a pre-Christmas dismissal feels increasingly real.

Slot will ultimately shoulder the blame, but his players have also significantly underperformed, especially after a massive £446m summer outlay that was expected to elevate the squad.

While we’re not calling for a ‘Slot out’ banner just yet — and his handling of the tragic loss of Diogo Jota in July deserves compassion — the ground beneath him is undeniably weakening.

Liverpool must respond, and fast. Results against West Ham, Sunderland and Leeds over the next 10 days will be crucial in keeping crisis talk at bay and ensuring the situation doesn’t spiral beyond repair.

Just six months after lifting the Premier League trophy at Anfield, Arne Slot now finds himself under intense pressure regarding his future as Liverpool head coach.
