Despite PSG eventually securing a 5–3 win at the Parc des Princes, Enrique made sure to acknowledge the quality Thomas Frank’s team brought to the game.

Tottenham stunned the European champions twice by taking the lead through Richarlison and then Randal Kolo Muani — the latter scoring against his parent club. But PSG’s attacking strength ultimately overwhelmed the visitors. Vitinha’s clinical hat-trick turned the match around, with additional goals from Fabián Ruiz and Willian Pacho keeping the French side among the favourites to win the tournament. Kolo Muani grabbed a second goal for Spurs as part of an emotional performance.

Spurs’ opener in the 35th minute was a standout moment — one that even Enrique openly admired. The move started with a smooth exchange between young midfielders Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall. Bergvall brilliantly back-heeled the ball into Gray’s path, sparking a rapid transition. Gray then delivered a precise cross to the far post, where Kolo Muani outjumped his defender and headed across goal for Richarlison to finish from close range — one of Tottenham’s finest team goals this season.

“Incredible,” Enrique said of the move, adding that PSG defended poorly in that sequence. “We didn’t defend well, but the goal was beautifully worked. The second was from a set piece, and the third came from a Vitinha assist.”

The PSG coach also applauded Tottenham’s overall display, especially early on when their compact structure caused his side problems. “There are no easy matches in the Champions League,” he said. “Tottenham played very well. Their defensive shape in the first half was excellent.”

Asked whether the match offered insight into how Ligue 1 compares to the Premier League, Enrique avoided making direct comparisons. “I’m not here to judge anyone,” he said. “Premier League teams are very strong, but the competition is long. We’ll see in March who is still in contention. Arsenal are leading in both competitions at the moment, defending well and performing at a very high level — but we have to stay cautious.”

Despite the defeat, Tottenham showed flashes of real quality, while PSG once again displayed their formidable attacking power — a reminder of how tight the margins are at the top level of European football.

Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique heaped praise on Tottenham Hotspur after their dramatic Champions League clash in Paris, highlighting Spurs’ “incredible” opener and their strong defensive organisation in the first half.
