Fresh details have emerged showing that Joe Lewis came under FA scrutiny three years ago, with Tottenham\u2019s then-principal owner reportedly investigated over suspected rule breaches. Lewis \u2013 the Bahamas-based billionaire behind ENIC and long-time overseer of Spurs \u2013 previously admitted to insider trading after being accused of passing confidential information to \u201cromantic partners and his private pilots.\u201d<\/p>\n
That case did not affect Tottenham, as Lewis had already handed control of the club and other assets to the Lewis Family Trusts before his indictment.<\/p>\n
It has now been revealed that in 2022, while he was still Spurs\u2019 principal owner, the FA also looked into allegations that Lewis had placed bets on football matches. According to The Sun, the governing body opened an investigation after being told he had wagered on games, something strictly banned for anyone connected to a club. FA disciplinary staff examined the claims but later closed the case, deciding no action would be taken against the now 88-year-old. Tottenham, along with representatives for Lewis and his Tavistock group, declined to comment.<\/p>\n
