However, tomorrow marks two months since his last outing \u2014 he\u2019s made just five appearances in total \u2014 and he hasn\u2019t been part of a Premier League matchday squad since mid-October (Transfermarkt). Some reports even suggest he may have already \u201cplayed his last game\u201d for Villa.<\/p>\n

Although still contracted to Liverpool, the club\u2019s hierarchy are said to consider him surplus to requirements \u2014 and another top-flight team could be preparing a move. The print edition of the Sunday Mirror (30 November, page 65; via West Ham Zone) claims West Ham want to be updated on Elliott\u2019s situation and are eyeing a summer transfer.<\/p>\n

A January return to Liverpool hasn\u2019t been dismissed if his playing time at Villa continues to stall, with RB Leipzig also monitoring the England U21 midfielder. Given Emery\u2019s reluctance to hand him the remaining appearances required to trigger a permanent move, Liverpool may need to seriously consider recalling him if he won\u2019t be used.<\/p>\n

Although Elliott was only a part-time starter under Arne Slot last season, he still featured 28 times and received opportunities from the bench. He also shared an emotional farewell message when he left in September.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s now clear he has no long-term future at Villa, and unless a January recall leads to him forcing his way back into Liverpool\u2019s plans, he may never add to his 149 Reds appearances. He\u2019s far too talented to let his career stagnate, and West Ham would be wise to capitalise on his bizarre situation \u2014 provided they can afford a permanent deal and remain in the Premier League.<\/p>\n
