A former backroom member under J\u00fcrgen Klopp at Liverpool is reportedly on the verge of a comeback to English football, now being considered for a managerial role.<\/p>\n
Just over six years ago, V\u00edtor Matos joined Anfield as an elite development coach \u2014 tasked with nurturing academy talents, helping them transition to the first team, and contributing to first-team training sessions. Alongside Klopp and much of his staff, Matos departed Merseyside at the end of the 2023\/24 season. He then worked under Pep Lijnders at Red Bull Salzburg until Lijnders\u2019 dismissal last December.<\/p>\n
In June, the 37-year-old accepted his first senior head-coach role with Mar\u00edtimo in Portugal. Yet, less than 18 months later, reports suggest he could be on the move again.<\/p>\n
According to Football Insider, Matos is now in \u201cadvanced talks\u201d with Swansea City for their vacant managerial post, following the recent departure of Alan Sheehan. Swansea reportedly hope to complete the deal ahead of their upcoming match against Bristol City.<\/p>\n
At Mar\u00edtimo, Matos has had a promising start \u2014 winning six of 12 games and steering the team into third place in Portugal\u2019s second division. His leadership has earned praise for an attacking style of play, tactical clarity, and a confident, engaging presence in press conferences.<\/p>\n
Upon hiring him in 2019, Klopp described Matos as an \u201coutstanding coach.\u201d At Liverpool, he was particularly valued for helping new signings \u2014 especially those not yet fluent in English \u2014 adapt quickly to the club\u2019s methods.<\/p>\n
If appointed at Swansea, Matos could represent a smart hire for the club. However, he\u2019ll face immediate pressure to deliver results: the team sits 18th in the Championship after a poor run of form.
