A reliable journalist reports that the goalkeeper will not be leaving in January.

Guglielmo Vicario joined Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2023 from Empoli as Hugo Lloris’ successor. He made an impressive start at the club and played a key role in their Europa League triumph under Ange Postecoglou last season.

The Italian international has delivered strong performances and memorable saves — including in the Europa League final against Manchester United — but his time at Spurs has also included several costly mistakes. The latest came against Fulham, where his error gifted Harry Wilson a goal in their 2–1 defeat, prompting boos from sections of the home crowd.

Amid the backlash and mounting rumours, Tottenham have now made their stance clear ahead of January.

According to Football Insider’s transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke, the club intends to stick with Vicario despite recent criticism and are highly unlikely to let him leave during the winter window. Spurs believe losing their first-choice goalkeeper mid-season would harm the team’s progress.

O’Rourke explained on the Inside Track podcast that a January exit is “no chance,” emphasising that Vicario remains Tottenham’s established No.1. While the summer could open the door to reassessing the position if other top goalkeepers become available, Spurs do not plan to make changes right now. He noted that although Vicario faced fan criticism after his error against Fulham, he accepted responsibility and continues to be a reliable shot-stopper, even if questions remain over his handling of crosses and set-pieces.

With interest from AC Milan and Inter Milan still alive, Spurs have begun monitoring potential long-term replacements, including Brighton’s Bart Verbruggen and Manchester City’s James Trafford. Verbruggen, in particular, has impressed since moving to the Premier League in 2023.

For the moment, however, Tottenham’s position is unchanged: Vicario is staying, and he is expected to see out the remainder of the 2025/26 season.

But Tottenham have reached a firm decision on Guglielmo Vicario’s future, despite growing transfer talk and increased frustration from supporters.
