During the second half, Romero was involved in a foot race with Brentford striker Igor Thiago, who was close to breaking through on goal. The Spurs centre-back lunged in to stop the attack but appeared to misjudge the ball, instead bringing down the Brazilian forward.<\/p>\n
Romero, who was sent off in Tottenham\u2019s previous match against Liverpool, has now accumulated eight bookings in all competitions this season. Thiago, who has scored 11 Premier League goals, could have decided the game.<\/p>\n
Speaking to Tottenham News, Hackett criticised the officials\u2019 handling of the incident. He said there was no doubt Romero fouled Thiago and that it should have resulted in a red card for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity, describing the decision by the referee and VAR as \u201c100 per cent incorrect\u201d and \u201cunacceptable.\u201d Footage of the challenge later circulated online.<\/p>\n
Despite the frustration, Tottenham did manage to take something positive from the match. Brentford boast one of the league\u2019s strongest home records and average two goals per game at the Gtech, yet Spurs kept them quiet.<\/p>\n
While the draw fell below Tottenham\u2019s expectations, another solid defensive display stood out. Clean sheets were rare under Ange Postecoglou, but Frank has already overseen five this season.
