Despite lifting the Europa League last season, Tottenham finished 17th in the Premier League and have continued to struggle in the lower half of the table this campaign.

Following the sale of Brennan Johnson to Crystal Palace, attention has now shifted toward bringing in players capable of improving the club’s performances and long-term prospects.

Spurs join Baleba pursuit

Tottenham are now said to be among several clubs monitoring Baleba’s situation. The Brighton midfielder, who has been labelled “exceptional,” is one of the most sought-after players in the Premier League, with the Seagulls understood to be valuing him at around £86 million.

Spurs face competition from Manchester United and Liverpool for the Cameroon international, who has registered four goals in 96 appearances for Brighton. Tottenham have also been linked with Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton, another player admired by the club.

With Baleba currently representing Cameroon at AFCON, any decision on his future is expected to be delayed until the summer transfer window, when interest from multiple clubs is likely to intensify.

No immediate move expected

Although Tottenham’s interest adds another layer to the ongoing transfer speculation, there have been no formal talks and a deal is not considered imminent.

Manchester United’s interest has been longstanding, with previous discussions held through intermediaries regarding a potential summer move. Brighton, however, rejected those approaches as they were keen to retain the midfielder. Sky Sports later reported renewed contact between the clubs over a possible January transfer, but this was firmly dismissed by Brighton CEO Paul Barber.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Barber said:
“No call from Old Trafford. No call from anyone connected to Manchester United. For us right now, he’s an important player for the second half of the season, and we’re looking forward to getting him back from AFCON.”

For now, Baleba’s next destination remains uncertain, with his future likely to be resolved at a later stage.

Tottenham eye £86m-rated Baleba as Wharton also remains on radar Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly emerged as unexpected contenders in the race to sign Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba, according to the Daily Briefing.
