Thomas Frank eased some of the pressure on his position as Tottenham Hotspur manager after guiding his side to a crucial 2-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n
However, the same relief did not extend to one Spurs player, who struggled despite the important win. Tottenham correspondent Alasdair Gold handed the under-fire star a lowly 5\/10 rating for his display against the Bundesliga outfit.<\/p>\n
Spurs took the lead within 15 minutes when Cristian Romero finished confidently from a Wilson Odobert delivery. Their advantage doubled shortly after when Dortmund\u2019s left wing-back Daniel Svensson was dismissed before the half-hour mark, allowing Dominic Solanke to register his first goal of the season from another Odobert assist.<\/p>\n
With his workload being carefully managed, Solanke was substituted after 70 minutes, making way for Randal Kolo Muani as Spurs pushed for a third goal.<\/p>\n
The French forward failed to make an impact and was later criticised by Gold. Writing for Football London, the journalist said: \u201cHe had a great opportunity to score Tottenham\u2019s third after being played through by Xavi [Simons] but directed his effort straight at the goalkeeper. He doesn\u2019t always attack situations as decisively as he should. 5\/10.\u201d<\/p>\n
No other Tottenham player received a rating below seven, leaving Kolo Muani as the lowest-rated performer on the night. His ongoing struggles in front of goal mean he now has just two goals in 23 appearances for Spurs, both of which came against former club Paris Saint-Germain in a 5-3 defeat in late November. He has also failed to register a single goal involvement in the league.<\/p>\n
Solanke\u2019s return to scoring form in his first start since last season further underlined the uncertainty surrounding Kolo Muani\u2019s future. With Richarlison already netting seven league goals, a departure from Tottenham appears increasingly likely for the World Cup finalist.<\/p>\n
Frank\u2019s victory has steadied his position following a difficult run of results, with the early goal and Dortmund red card providing the perfect platform for Spurs to secure all three points. Despite recent struggles, Tottenham now sit fourth in the Champions League league-phase standings and remain well placed to qualify for the round of 16, provided they secure a positive result away to Eintracht Frankfurt next week.<\/p>\n
