His first assignment in the role came in Milan, where he watched Mikel Arteta’s side secure a 3–1 victory over Inter.

Postecoglou was full of admiration for Arsenal’s display, singling out Gabriel Jesus after the striker scored twice to help the Gunners record their seventh straight Champions League win this season.

The 60-year-old’s reputation took a hit during his brief and unsuccessful time at the City Ground, but his standing in the game appears to be improving again, particularly with Tottenham struggling under Thomas Frank.

Writing in his official report on UEFA’s website, Postecoglou highlighted Jesus’ sharpness in front of goal, saying the forward’s awareness inside the penalty area gave Arsenal an extra threat to match their varied attacking play.

He explained that both goals underlined Jesus’ natural instincts as a striker — the first coming after reacting quickest to a miscued effort, and the second from anticipating a rebound off the crossbar while others hesitated.

Before taking the Forest job, Postecoglou had already acknowledged that his time at Tottenham was nearing an end, despite leading the club to Europa League glory last season and ending their 17-year wait for silverware.

Reflecting on his departure, he said he chose not to let the situation overshadow the celebrations, admitting he sensed it was over shortly after the trophy parade. He described his two years at Spurs as extremely demanding but praised the people he worked alongside and spoke warmly of the supporters, many of whom still show him affection when they meet him.

Postecoglou added that moments like those are what make the job worthwhile and insisted his time at Tottenham will always remain special to him.

His spell at Nottingham Forest lasted just 39 days, making it the second shortest managerial reign in Premier League history, behind only Sam Allardyce’s 30-day stint at Leeds United.

Ange Postecoglou’s latest role in football saw him travel to the San Siro to watch Arsenal in Champions League action.
