Spurs have officially announced their second signing of the January window with the arrival of the highly rated left-back, following the earlier addition of England midfielder Conor Gallagher. The Brazilian defender, aged just 19, joins after Tottenham saw an initial bid of around \u00a38 million turned down before returning with an improved offer that Santos accepted.<\/p>\n
Pending international clearance, Souza is expected to link up immediately with Thomas Frank\u2019s first-team squad. He will add depth and competition at left-back, providing cover for Destiny Udogie, Djed Spence and Ben Davies, whose contract expires at the end of June.<\/p>\n
While viewed as a player with significant long-term potential, there is confidence within the club that Souza is ready to contribute right away as Spurs look to revive their season. He joined Santos\u2019 academy in 2016, developed through a futsal background and has represented Brazil at Under-17 level.<\/p>\n
Souza is represented by prominent agent Giuliano Bertolucci and made 38 senior appearances for Santos, featuring alongside Neymar. Last season, he played 29 matches, scoring once and registering two assists, as Santos finished 12th and narrowly avoided relegation.<\/p>\n
Although left-back was not initially a priority position, Tottenham were open to reinforcing the role after it became a problem area. Udogie has been sidelined since early December with a hamstring injury sustained in the 2-2 draw against Newcastle, with Spence and Davies stepping in to cover.<\/p>\n
Speaking after the deal was completed, Frank said: \u201cI\u2019m very pleased to welcome Souza to the squad. He\u2019s a talented young full-back who is technically strong, attacking in his approach and full of promise.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe believe he is one of the brightest left-back prospects in the game. He can help us now, but also has huge potential for the future.\u201d<\/p>\n

Davies, who has recently started FA Cup matches against Sunderland and Aston Villa, is expected to leave at the end of the season and has been linked with a move to Nice.<\/p>\n
Tottenham are also expected to remain active in the transfer market, with a forward still on their wishlist. Options are limited in January, with RB Leipzig unwilling to sell Yan Diomande and Manchester City winger Savinho sidelined until February.
