Tottenham Hotspur head coach Thomas Frank has eased fears over Cristian Romero\u2019s fitness after the defender was substituted late on in the dramatic 2-2 draw with Burnley at Turf Moor.<\/p>\n
Spurs had taken the lead through Micky van de Ven in the first half, but Burnley responded strongly and turned the game on its head, with Lyle Foster firing the hosts 2-1 ahead with 14 minutes remaining.<\/p>\n
Tottenham pushed hard for a leveller and looked set for frustration when Xavi Simons rattled the crossbar in stoppage time. But moments later, Romero came to the rescue, powering a fierce header into the roof of Martin D\u00fabravka\u2019s net to snatch a point for Frank\u2019s side.<\/p>\n
The captain\u2019s equaliser sparked chaotic celebrations, during which Romero kicked the electronic advertising boards in front of the travelling Spurs fans. Shortly after, he appeared to be in discomfort, clutching the back of his left leg, prompting Frank to replace him with Radu Dr\u0103gu\u0219in for the closing moments.<\/p>\n
However, speaking to football.london after the match, Frank played down concerns.
\n\u201cRomero was cramping in the end,\u201d the Spurs boss explained.<\/p>\n
Pedro Porro was also withdrawn after the interval, with Destiny Udogie introduced. Frank added: \u201cPedro has played a lot of minutes and put in a big physical effort. We wanted more running power, with Djed on the right and Destiny coming in.\u201d<\/p>\n
Any serious injury to Romero would have been a major setback for Spurs, particularly with a brutal run of fixtures looming.<\/p>\n
Tottenham next travel to Eintracht Frankfurt for a decisive Champions League clash that will determine whether they qualify automatically for the round of 16. February then brings a daunting Premier League schedule against Manchester City (H), Manchester United (A), Newcastle United (H) and Arsenal (H).<\/p>\n
Failure to progress in Europe would also mean a two-legged Champions League play-off, adding further congestion to an already demanding period.<\/p>\n
Reflecting on the Burnley draw, Frank praised his centre-backs for both finding the net, but challenged his attackers to step up.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat is very positive,\u201d he said. \u201cBut of course we need more from our offensive players. They know it, they work hard on it \u2014 it\u2019s not about desire.<\/p>\n
