While he acknowledged Van Dijk was impeded, he pointed out that the contact came from a teammate rather than a Bournemouth player. \u201cHe was blocked, he was fouled \u2014 but by his own player,\u201d Redknapp explained. \u201cWatch his right foot. In the heat of the moment, Van Dijk may have assumed the obstruction came from an opponent, but the replays told a different story. Despite getting on the scoresheet himself, it was a difficult evening for Van Dijk. He was also partly at fault earlier in the match for Evanilson\u2019s opening goal after failing to deal with a long ball into the box.<\/p>\n
When Liverpool review the game in the coming days, they are likely to accept that the defeat was down to their own mistakes rather than refereeing decisions.
