Liverpool have reportedly made a dramatic late decision to abandon a move that would have seen club icon Andy Robertson swap Anfield for Premier League rivals Tottenham this month.<\/p>\n
Although discussions had taken place between the two clubs and Robertson was understood to be open to a new challenge, Liverpool\u2019s senior figures have now reversed course as the transfer window enters its final days.<\/p>\n
With the February 2 deadline approaching, the Reds have informed Spurs that their vice-captain is no longer available, opting to preserve squad depth rather than cash in on the 31-year-old for a modest fee.<\/p>\n
Transfer journalist Ben Jacobs revealed the update on X, explaining that while negotiations were advanced, Liverpool ultimately felt their defensive situation made selling Robertson too much of a risk.<\/p>\n
According to Jacobs, the club seriously weighed up Tottenham\u2019s proposal \u2014 believed to be worth more than \u00a35 million including add-ons \u2014 and even explored the option of recalling Kostas Tsimikas from his loan at AS Roma to provide cover for first-choice left-back Milos Kerkez.<\/p>\n
In the end, however, Arne Slot\u2019s side chose not to push ahead with the deal.<\/p>\n
Jacobs also stressed that Robertson remained fully professional throughout the process. While he was receptive to a move to North London, he never attempted to force an exit.<\/p>\n

\u201cAndy Robertson is set to stay at Liverpool for now. The club do not feel they are in a position to sell at this stage.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll discussions have been handled with the best interests of both Robertson and Liverpool in mind.<\/p>\n
\u201cLiverpool considered Spurs\u2019 offer, worth over \u00a35m plus add-ons, and looked at recalling Kostas Tsimikas, but have decided not to proceed at this moment.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhile late-window developments could change things, Liverpool currently plan to keep Robertson.<\/p>\n
\u201cRobertson has acted professionally throughout. Although open to Spurs, he did not push for a move.\u201d<\/p>\n
There had been suggestions that allowing Robertson to join Tottenham could help Liverpool in future talks over a potential summer move for Micky van de Ven.<\/p>\n
However, with the deal now shelved, the Merseyside club may miss out on gaining that negotiating edge down the line.<\/p>\n
Keeping Robertson ensures that one of Liverpool\u2019s most successful modern-era players will not depart quietly in a mid-season, cut-price transfer.<\/p>\n
