Liverpool have formally announced they\u2019ve reached an agreement in principle to sign highly rated Austria Vienna defender Ifeanyi Ndukwe.<\/p>\n
The transfer, which is still pending international clearance, underlines the Reds\u2019 continued focus on snapping up elite young prospects from across Europe as part of their long-term strategy.<\/p>\n
Liverpool confirmed that Ndukwe will stay in Austria for the rest of the season before officially joining the club and linking up with the U21s in the summer of 2026.<\/p>\n
Who is Ifeanyi Ndukwe?<\/p>\n
Ndukwe is widely regarded as one of the most exciting young defenders currently emerging in European football.<\/p>\n
The centre-back, who is 17 and turns 18 in March, will then be eligible to complete his move to Merseyside.<\/p>\n
His profile rose dramatically at the 2025 U17 World Cup in Qatar, where he played a key role in Austria\u2019s run to the final. Ndukwe featured in all but one match as Austria finished runners-up to Portugal, delivering a series of standout performances.<\/p>\n
He also grabbed headlines by scoring in a dominant 4-0 victory over England, a display that attracted interest from several major clubs, including Inter Milan and multiple Bundesliga sides.<\/p>\n
At club level, Ndukwe has been a regular for Austria Vienna\u2019s reserve team, the Young Violets, competing in Austria\u2019s second tier. His calmness on the ball and physical presence have already earned him exposure to the first team, with nine appearances on the senior matchday bench this season.<\/p>\n

Despite the excitement surrounding the signing, Ndukwe is not expected to address Liverpool\u2019s short-term centre-back issues under Arne Slot.<\/p>\n
Defensive depth has been a growing concern, with Virgil van Dijk turning 35 this year and uncertainty surrounding Ibrahima Konat\u00e9\u2019s contract.
