Just as he began to find momentum, he suffered a serious leg break — a factor that significantly shapes any fair assessment of his season.

Isak has been judged harshly at Liverpool

There is increasing backing for the view that Isak’s reputation has taken an unfair hit. Premier League injury specialist Ben Dinnery believes perception has outweighed reality.

“I do think Alexander Isak is judged quite harshly for his time at Newcastle,” Dinnery told Esports Insider.
“Sometimes players aren’t fully fit but are still prepared to put their body on the line for the team.”

That narrative has followed Isak to Liverpool, having arrived late in the transfer window. The No.9 missed the crucial conditioning phase required for Arne Slot’s system, which affected his sharpness and explosiveness.

Dinnery also highlighted how expectations around availability can shift in squads with greater depth:
“What the player wants and expects doesn’t always align with how the manager views their role.”

This has left Isak competing directly with Hugo Ekitike and helps explain the careful management of his minutes.

Isak’s Liverpool numbers still tell a positive story

Isak has featured in 10 Premier League games this season, scoring twice and registering one assist, with an expected goals figure of 2.05 — indicating his finishing is broadly in line with the chances he’s received.

He has averaged just 52 minutes per appearance, pointing more toward fitness management than tactical rejection. It also reflects a striker dealing with disrupted rhythm, something Slot has acknowledged following Isak’s injury.

“It’s going to be a long injury — a couple of months,” Slot said.
“That’s a huge disappointment for him and for us.”

Prior to the setback, Isak himself admitted he expected more from his performances.

“I expect to do much more,” he said.
“I’m the first to know when I’m playing well and when I’m not.
