The England international fell out of favour and was excluded from the first-team squad this season, failing to make a single appearance as his career stalled. With the club unable to find a permanent solution, Chelsea opted to release the forward and allow him to seek a new opportunity elsewhere.

Spurs had been mentioned as a potential destination as they continue to explore attacking reinforcements, but Gold has now clarified Tottenham’s position regarding a possible approach for the former Manchester City winger.

Tottenham Decide Against Sterling Move

Gold reports that Tottenham do not expect to make an attempt to sign Sterling on a free transfer. This update follows his earlier dismissal of links between Spurs and Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta.

Despite speculation linking Sterling with a switch to north London, former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara publicly backed the idea, claiming he would “absolutely” welcome the attacker and suggesting Sterling would improve Spurs’ forward options.

However, it appears O’Hara’s stance is not shared by the club. With both Sterling and Mateta ruled out, it remains uncertain whether Tottenham will add a new forward before the January transfer window closes.

Why Spurs Are Right to Walk Away

Sterling has struggled to recapture his best form in recent years, making Tottenham’s reluctance understandable. His time at Chelsea failed to meet expectations, while a loan spell at Arsenal also proved unsuccessful, and he has yet to feature at all this season.

Despite being available on a free transfer, Sterling is expected to command high wages, making it difficult for Spurs to justify the investment. While attacking reinforcements may still be a priority, Sterling does not appear to be the solution Tottenham are looking for.

Tottenham Hotspur are unlikely to pursue a move for Raheem Sterling following his departure from Chelsea by mutual agreement, according to respected journalist Alasdair Gold.
