Having already missed last weekend\u2019s trip to Manchester City through illness \u2014 and after openly criticising Tottenham\u2019s hierarchy for their lack of January transfer business \u2014 the Spurs skipper is now set to serve a four-match suspension following his straight red card.<\/p>\n
The sending-off proved pivotal, swinging control firmly in United\u2019s favour during a decisive 10-minute spell before halftime and leaving Tottenham facing an uphill battle in the second half. Why Romero Faces a Four-Game Suspension<\/p>\n
Romero\u2019s ban has been increased from the usual three matches to four because it represents his second dismissal of the season. FA disciplinary guidelines stipulate that players sent off more than once in the same campaign receive an automatic additional one-game suspension.<\/p>\n
Consequently, Romero will also miss the north London derby against Arsenal on February 22. Earlier in the season, he was shown a straight red against Liverpool after striking Ibrahima Konat\u00e9 and was later hit with further punishment for his behaviour following that incident.<\/p>\n
Once this latest suspension has been served, Romero will have missed nine matches this season due to disciplinary issues alone, including time sidelined after accumulating too many yellow cards.<\/p>\n

The 27-year-old\u2019s most recent dismissal \u2014 his sixth red card for Tottenham across all competitions \u2014 arrives only days after he appeared to criticise the club\u2019s leadership amid an ongoing injury crisis.<\/p>\n
Romero had branded it \u201cdisgraceful\u201d that Spurs were left with just 11 senior players for their clash with Manchester City, remarks widely viewed as a swipe at the club\u2019s inactivity in the transfer market. Thomas Frank later stated the matter had been dealt with internally.<\/p>\n
