Ange Postecoglou has spoken candidly about Tottenham Hotspur and his successor, Thomas Frank, following the Dane\u2019s dismissal.<\/p>\n
Frank was relieved of his duties on Wednesday after Spurs suffered a 2-1 defeat at home to Newcastle \u2014 a result that leaves the north London side 16th in the Premier League, just five points above the relegation zone with 12 matches remaining.<\/p>\n
It marks the second managerial change at Tottenham in the space of eight months. Postecoglou himself was dismissed only days after guiding the club to victory in the 2025 Europa League final.<\/p>\n
His sacking sparked fierce debate among supporters, many of whom felt he deserved another season after delivering European silverware and securing Champions League qualification. Despite finishing 17th in the league, the Australian had been transparent about prioritising the Europa League during the latter part of the campaign.<\/p>\n
Appearing on The Overlap\u2019s Stick to Football podcast, Postecoglou offered further insight into the circumstances surrounding his exit. Notably, his appearance came just minutes after Spurs confirmed Frank\u2019s dismissal, prompting an immediate response.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou know he can\u2019t be the only problem at the club,\u201d Postecoglou said. \u201cThat applies to any manager, but ultimately we\u2019re the ones judged on results.<\/p>\n
\u201cTottenham is a curious club. There was a significant shift at the end of last year \u2014 not just with me leaving, but Daniel Levy stepping away too.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat kind of overhaul creates uncertainty. There are no guarantees, regardless of who you appoint. They\u2019ve had elite managers before who didn\u2019t manage to deliver success.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou have to ask why such a major change was made. Thomas walks in \u2014 what exactly is his brief? What is the club\u2019s clear objective?<\/p>\n
\u201cAt the start of the season, the message was about competing on all fronts. But Spurs haven\u2019t truly done that for quite some time. And when the most influential figure at the club for two decades is also departing, that adds another layer.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you\u2019re making such a sweeping reset, you have to expect instability.<\/p>\n
\u201cDid Thomas fully understand the situation he was stepping into? I can\u2019t say.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s also a big shift from what I built. I assembled that squad to play a particular way over the last couple of years. Then someone else comes in with a different approach.<\/p>\n
